The Keeper of Christmas Magic

Filed Under: christmas, christmas 2021, motherhood // December 7, 2021

The Christmas countdown is officially on! With less than three weeks to go, I’ve been in what I liked to call “Mama Claus Mode.” My to-do list has included ordering the kids’ presents from my husband and I (and their grandparents), a Christmas baking activity, decorating the house and tree, and little surprises here and there for them.

It’s a beautiful, wonderful, fun thing keeping the magic of Christmas alive for them. But I have to admit it is also incredibly stressful.

I know this season isn’t about giving the most presents or doing the most activities. I know I don’t have to holiday photos, holiday cards, matching pjs, elaborate gift wrapping or decor. But I still want to do some of that, even though I have so much laundry to do … even though I have many work tasks and projects as I navigate working from home with kids … even though I am trying to stick to some sort of budget … and even though I am sick.

I still want to be the best Mama Claus I can be despite feeling stretched thin.

So I’ve tried to cut some corners. I decided not to put up all my Christmas decor so I wouldn’t have to take it all down. We still don’t do the Elf on the Shelf because it’s enough work playing Santa. We baked and decorated Christmas cupcakes instead of going to our town’s Christmas parade and tree lighting to avoid getting the kids more sick (they’re currently under the weather).

But as I remind myself what’s most important this holiday season – being happy, healthy and together – I realize I am still putting too much pressure on myself. I don’t know what the answer is to to not feeling overwhelmed during this time of year as I am still figuring it out… It seems like that’s the common theme of my motherhood journey- “still figuring out.” I think many moms can probably relate.

I hope you all have a minimally stressful, very joyful holiday season!

To all the Mama Clauses out there, I see you! You are appreciated!

How to Get Natural Waves Without Heat

Filed Under: hair care, natural waves // October 22, 2021

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hair Food. The opinions and text are all mine.

My first memory of my hair is me wanting it to be like Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s short straight hair. The issue was my hair is thick and not straight. Needless to say, I never really achieved their hair when I was younger.

When I was a teen, however, I did begin straightening it and eventually achieved that look I was going for.  And when I say straightened it, I mean I even used a clothes iron to try to get it to be as “flat” as possible. I did not realize that the heat was bad for my hair, and that over time, my waves would become less voluminous.  Most of all, it makes me sad to think about how much I disliked my natural hair.

It was not until my mid- 20’s when I was in law school, and therefore very busy, that I finally started embracing my natural hair. I also started paying more attention to what hair care products I was using and began using products free of harsh chemicals like Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Shampoo; Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Hair Mask; and Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Conditioner.

Hair Food’s mission is simple: nourish your hair like you nourish your body. What we put onto our hair and on the outside of our body matters, too. How we treat our hair also makes a difference. That is why I want to share with you how to get natural waves without heat. This hair care routine at home is quick and simple.

Step 1: Wet hair and wash with Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Shampoo. Rinse.

Step 2: Work Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Hair Mask through wet hair, starting at mid shaft. Leave it in for 3-5 minutes. Detangle hair with a comb. Rinse the hair mask out.

Step 3: Lather hair with Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Nourishing Conditioner. Detangle in shower. Rinse.

Step 4: Towel dry your hair until it is just damp. Feel free to lather in Hair Food Coconut Nourishing Hair Oil or Hair Food Avocado & Argan Oil Smoothing Hair Oil if your hair needs extra nourishment to dry to smooth hair or to stop frizzy hair after washing.

Step 5: Comb your hair, part it, and place in a tight low ponytail.

Step 6: Air dry hair.

Step 7: When hair is dry, let the ponytail out. Lightly pass fingers through your hair to create some volume.

You’re all done!

Hair Food hair care products are sulfate-free, paraben-free, and dye-free. The Hair Food Coconut Milk & Chai Spice Collection is a sulfate-free recipe infused with the comforting essences of creamy coconut milk and aromatic chai spice. It nourishes and volumizes your hair, leaving it healthy and touchable. It is best for fine and dry hair. The Avocado & Argan Oil Collection is a sulfate-free recipe infused with avocado and argan oil that gently leaves your hair soft, smooth, hydrated & vibrant. It is best for frizzy hair and to prevent damage. If you have hair that is a mix, you can mix-and-match the collections like I did. You can buy these Hair Food hair care products at Target.

My effortless hair care routine for achieving natural waves without heat especially helps since I don’t have much time to devote to doing my hair everyday now as a career woman and mom. I can get things done while letting my hair do its thing. I know many of you are busy, as well, so I think this would be great for you, too. And remember: your natural hair is beautiful!

If you try this hair care routine, I’d love to know how it works for you!

I’m a Proud Latina Mom

Filed Under: hispanic heritage month, latina, motherhood // October 13, 2021

As a proud Puerto Rican American, Hispanic Heritage Month means honoring the past, present and future. It is paying homage to those who’ve paved the way for me and to the current generation. It is feeling confident and proud of my culture. And it is instilling that confidence and love of culture into my boys, as well as being a good role model for the future generations.

My family doesn’t celebrate our culture only during Hispanic Heritage Month — we celebrate it every day even though we are a mixed culture family (my husband is of mainly European descent). It is common for us to have morning salsa or reggaeton dance parties; to eat Hispanic foods; and to hear Spanish on TV, when family is over or speak Spanglish at home. As my children get older, we’ll also be discussing more about our cultural and familial histories.

My favorite part of Hispanic Heritage Month is the opportunity it provides to showcase our beautiful culture and people. For so long, Hispanic s/heroes were in the shadows — this month helps to shine the light on our culture and amazing contributions to society.

The biggest element of my heritage that empowers me is resiliency — the resiliency of my ancestors, of my elders, of the current generation todavía luchando (still fighting) for equality and for the future generations to follow who I know will make me just as proud.

As a Latina blogger and creative, representation of fellow Hispanic and Latina creatives is important

to me. I truly believe we bring an authentic, unique, much-needed viewpoint and voice to this space.

I encourage you all to increase your exposure of Hispanic creatives, activists and leaders, as well as

to support Hispanic-owned brands.

Loving the Skin I’m In

This post is sponsored by Poise® but all opinions are my own.

As a young girl, I wished for my body to look like the women and girls I saw in magazines. I know I am not alone.

As life would have it, however, that is not reality. My body is my own. And it has undergone many changes over the years, especially since having three kids via c-section. While it might not look how I’d always envisioned, I am proud of its strength and resiliency.

Each pregnancy and postpartum journey has presented its own unique experiences and challenges. I have gained weight. I have labored for hours followed by c-section births. I have lost weight. From stretch marks to bladder leaks, I’ve had to learn to love my body again and again. Having a good self-care routine and quality products can help immensely.

Fortunately, One by Poise® offers 2-in-1 Protection for 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝 𝗪𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬™  with dryness and odor control benefits. Buy them at Walmart in-store and via online grocery. Earn $3 back with Ibotta while supplies last!

Baby’s Big Messes

This shop has been compensated by Inmar Intelligence and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #waterwipestexturedclean #texturedclean

How has our littlest baby been with us over two months?! Time sure does fly! As a third-time mom, I am trying to slow down and appreciate every moment because I know just how precious this stage is.

This stage is also pretty messy. There is constant spit up — his pediatrician calls him a “happy spitter” — and constant dirty diapers. I am well aware, though, that as he grows so too will the mess! I know because his older brothers have prepped me pretty well for the constant mess that awaits! There will be messy eating, potty training, arts and crafts, and so on.

I’m excited my favorite brand of baby wipes, WaterWipes has new textured wipes to clean babies’ bigger messes. WaterWipes Textured Clean wipes can tackle messes wherever they occur as babies transition from newborn to toddler and beyond. I make sure to keep packs around the house, including the nursery nook stand, the kitchen and the living room.

WaterWipes Textured Clean are the World’s Purest Baby Wipes, containing just two simple ingredients: water and fruit extract. They contain 99.9% water and drop of fruit and berry extract for natural cleansing power. Ideal for use on hands, face and bottoms.

WaterWipes Textured Clean are safe for sensitive skin. My middle kiddo has skin irritations so it’s especially nice to know that WaterWipes Textured Clean has been awarded the Seal of Acceptance by the National Eczema Association.

You can buy WaterWipes Textured Clean at your local Walmart in-store, via pickup or via delivery.
