Maternity Leave

In case you’ve been wondering, I’m still writing in this space of mine every now and again. Life is just a bit busier nowadays (see: I’m too busy soaking up every second with my mini).

I’m currently on maternity leave until October and while it might seem like a while, it doesn’t seem entirely long enough to me. But such is life and I consider myself lucky to have this time to just be with my baby boy.

Maternity leave has been interesting. On a side note, it kicked off one day earlier than expected since my water broke unexpectedly. The day I went into labor, I still worked FROM THE HOSPITAL. I told myself I’d continue working for as long as my contractions were moderate.

While on leave my days usually consist of the following:

12am- feeding and diaper change*
12-3am- sleep
3am- feeding and diaper change
3-5/6am -sleep
6am – feeding and diaper change
6-8am- sleep
8am- feeding and diaper change
8-10am- sleep
10am – breakfast, playtime, get ready for the day if we are going out
*diaper changes as needed, which adds up to 2-3 every couple hours

And so you get the idea… During the nighttime and early morning hours, life revolves around the baby’s feedings and diaper changes. Due to the short spurts of sleep we get, we are usually really tired during the day.

A nap for us will happen sometime in the afternoon or evening if either of us is lucky enough. The baby’s schedule pretty much continues in the same patten throughout the day.

We like to get an early morning or evening walk in to get some fresh air. Despite the lack of sleep and time for ourselves, life has been the best it’s ever been. The baby is the light of my life and I could just stare at him all day.

Life lately… Post baby

Hi there! It’s been a little while since I’ve last been here so I figured I’d give an update:
Baby L is growing and growing. He amazes his daddy and me everyday with how perfect he is for us. He is literally our favorite person in the universe–don’t know how we ever did life without him💙
I recently had the chance to get my pedicure done while my cousin and Mr. L stayed with the baby. It was weird not to be with him and all I really wanted was a nap but it felt nice to take of something of myself.
We threw my parents a surprise 30th Anniversary Party this past weekend and it was a hit. There were tears, laughter, good food and dancing (and everyone swooned over the baby)–what else could you want? Speaking of the party, I wore a red lace number and my wedding rings… Because they fit again!

The summer weather is in full swing and by that I mean it’s been hot hot hot. Perfect weather for fresh pineapple, though. It’s my favorite fruit and I didn’t eat much of it during my pregnancy due to the myth that it could soften your cervix …so I enjoyed “indulging” this past week.
Well, tell me — what have you all been up to?

The best 4th of July weekend

No, it’s not because of barbecues and all the yummy food. It’s not because of fireworks. Or a beach trip.
This year was very different than last year. In Chicago, Mr. L and I went kayaking on Lake Michigan, and ate at the boat house and hung out by North Street Beach. It was a lot of fun and our last big weekend in Chicago before moving back to NY.
Fast forward to this past weekend and it couldn’t have been more amazing. And we didn’t even go out. It was just the two three of us hanging out as a little family. Because on Wednesday, June 29, I gave birth to the most precious human I have ever met. My life feels like it has so much more meaning and true purpose. I can’t even put into words how I feel about him because the immense love I feel is completely unsurmountable.
Life has never been better.

Last weekend of June

Who else is utterly surprised the last weekend of June 2016 is over? That means we have less than a week until our due date! This weekend was supposed to consist of relaxation and a date night.

We did the first on Saturday when we relaxed at the beach with family. The northeast U.S. Atlantic Ocean coast might not be the prettiest but I still feel lucky to live near the ocean.

Then, on Sunday we decided to chance it (with me being 39 weeks pregnant and all…) and head to Philly for my cousin’s wedding. Yes, I wore heels. Who said pregnancy fashion has to be boring?

We also received all of our maternity photos. I am in love with them–big ‘ol bump, double chins and all. Here’s another sneak peek:

I’ll share some more later on this week 🙂
Now, back to work I go. Luckily, I work from home this week and then maternity leave kicks in. This all still feels surreal to me!
