Since R was born on Earth Day, we thought this year it would be fitting to make it his birthday “party” theme. Due to the pandemic, we threw him an intimate family-only celebration at home. He was spoiled with love by me, my husband and his big brother. During cake time, we had a  Zoom call with family from all across the country (New York, Texas, and Michigan).
Almost everything was homemade:
  • “TWO” banner
  • Globe puff decor balls
  • Balloon paint (it was a gold foil balloon)
  • Globe cake
  • Tie-dye t-shirts (dyed with food coloring)
I seriously had so much fun putting everything together, and you couldn’t tell the day was not a “normal” birthday celebration. We were going to forgo birthday parties this year and take the boys on little weekend getaways. instead, so this worked out. We will have to wait for the trips but for now, we are just enjoying our time together at home.

Five on Friday: Top 5 Memories of my 28th Year

Filed Under: birthday, five on friday, life // August 4, 2017

Guess whose birthday is tomorrow?! This girl’s. My birthday has always been a favorite day of mine because I’m living a life I love.

Here are my top 5 memories from my 28th year:
1. Watching my baby boy grow and develop. Nothing brings me more joy.
2. Our firsts — first holidays as a family of three, and Seb’s 1st birthday and first vacation.
3. Being closer with family. Our NY family is so supportive and helpful. And our Michigan family still manages to remain close despite the distance. Reuniting with them is so fun. Having our baby cousins tribe together a few times in both Michigan and NYC were definitely highlights.
4. Seeing my husband become a dad. Marriage is way different now but our love is way stronger.
5. Finally letting go and opening up about my blog. Much has happened since then, including my growth as a mom and person, and the community of moms I’ve connected with is amazing.
Thanks, 28. You were amazing. Here’s looking at you, 29!

Happy ~9008th Birthday to Me!

Filed Under: birthday, grateful, life // April 8, 2013

This past weekend I was away in Greensboro, NC for a school competition. On Saturday, my teammates and I walked around the many vintage shops that were downtown. I came across this birthday card in one of the shops and instantly fell in love with the first part of the cover words:

“When people asked how old she was, she would say 1009365, more or less,
because she was so glad to be alive that she counted every day a birthday.”

So today, I celebrate my 9008th birthday, more or less, because I too am happy to be alive every. single. day. Rain or shine. Happy or sad. Calm or stressed. Life is so wonderful and I thank God everyday for it. Sure, some days might be harder or less pleasant than others but that doesn’t take any of life’s beauty away – it actually helps to contribute to it and make the good days all the better.

This card reminded me that every day is a beautiful gift and that we should all live day by day. I myself am guilty of looking forward to the future – after all, I am constantly counting down to when I’ll be reunited with Tim again – so this was a great reminder to be grateful for my “everydays.”
