Moments of Musing

Welcome To MOM’s New Website

Hi everyone! Welcome to my new website for the Moments of Musing (MOM) influencer business. As you can see, the design is very different than any of my previous sites. I finally made the switch from Blogger to WordPress for reasons including website functionality and improved SEO.

Though this change was years in the making, it was a big decision that felt overwhelming so I kept putting it off. One of my 2022 business goals was to finally see it through, though, and I’m happy I did.

Why the rebrand?

To celebrate 5 years of Moments of Musing (MOM) and the direction in which it’s moving! It’s crazy to think it’s been 5 whole years since I officially rebranded to MOM and went public with my blog.

Who designed my new website for MOM influencer business?

While I purchased the theme, I installed and personalized it on my own, which has been a fun learning experience. (wpbeginner took care of the migration of all files.)

What’s new?

I have a new logo (it’s the period after Moments of Musing and much more visible on my LinkedIn). I have also opened up consultation and website installation services.

Is anything else different?

I am not sure if anyone has noticed but I have been trying to feature my children less in my Instagram content, especially ads. As time has gone on and they are growing up, I feel a stronger “mama bear” instinct to protect them and their privacy. I am also editing my photo truer to color and reality. I deleted all of my the presets I used to apply to my photos and now use more natural editing, mainly for lighting/brightening purposes.

Who took the branding photos?

My husband, Tim, took my photos. When discussing photographer or camera options, Tim offered to learn more about our Nikon and take the photos for me. I am so happy we went this route – the photos mean a bit more now!

What plans do you have for Moments of Musing in 2022?

2021 was my most “successful” year business-wise but I was very stressed juggling my nonprofit work along with my Moments of Musing projects and taking care of my kiddos. Therefore, my main 2022 business goals are to grow and to outsource tasks that I could use some help with. As such, Tim has become more involved behind-the-scenes to help me grow and manage my business.

All in all, I am excited for what this year has in store!

Do you have any professional goals for 2022 that you are working on?

My Husband is an Instagram Husband

Instagram Husband, Instagram Husband tips, Instagram photos, Husband photographer, brand photography, supportive husband, supportive spouse

How do you get your husband involved in photographing content for you?

I’ve been thinking about this topic because it came up in an Instagram support group of influencers and bloggers.  I know it can be a common struggle among bloggers and influencers to get your partner involved in taking photos for your content. What it comes down to for me is my husband’s willingness, and quite frankly desire, to help me build my brand and business.

It’s actually mutually beneficial. I save money on a photographer and get my photos. In turn, I am able to contribute financially to our household even more because of the content.

Honestly, having an Instagram Husband isn’t just convenient, it’s crucial to my business. In all seriousness, it would all be a heck of a lot harder without his unwavering support.

So, how does it work? He photographs, usually with my creative direction, and I edit.

Did / does my husband love taking photos just because? No, and he still sometimes get annoyed if I’m trying to photograph special moments versus being present (I’ve worked on this, which I think is a common struggle among content creators). BUT he enjoys being my partner in all things, cheering me on, and helping me out. After all, we both want one another to be successful.

So if you are struggling with getting your partner involved, maybe you can frame it with the following ideas:

  • His/her support matters. In a newer and small business, having extra help from family or friends can go far.
  • Posting to Instagram (and other platforms) is about much more than just sharing photos on social media. It’s a business tool!
  • You will be able to contribute more money by saving money on a photographer.
  • Simply put, it’s nice to have a supportive partner, someone who lifts up your dreams.

I truly hope this information helps to get your partner on board. Good luck!

Just Bloom

Filed Under: blog, blog name // August 25, 2016

When I renamed my blog from City Girl Finding Her Place in the World (super short, I know…) to Love, Mrs. L, I wasn’t very content. I thought of Love, Mrs. L as a placeholder rather than a long-lasting blog name and it did not sit well with me. Maybe that’s why I stopped writing as often–I’d lost direction. I went back to the drawing board. I started brainstorming new blog names but I was reaching dead end after dead end. That’s when I decided to search for a floral blog design (because I love flowers–they’re my love language).

When I found this design, I kept looking just to see what else was out there but I kept coming back to it. Nearly two weeks later, I finally bit the bullet and made the purchase. I pondered keeping the blog name as Love, Mrs. L. After all, I was happier with the design so that was an improvement. I decided to keep brainstorming, though. While brainstorming I remembered I had a queued latergram photo of sunflowers to be posted with the following quote, a favorite of mine:

“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” – Author Unknown

The quote resonates with me on many levels and for many reasons. As a professional, I’ve realized that in doing my best work, I can exceed my own expectations without having the added pressures of competition and comparison.

As a wife, I try to remember that my life with my husband is wonderful just as it is. Whatever tough times we might face are dealt with together and so, the “bad” times aren’t really all that bad and the good times are that much better.

As a new mom, I am quickly learning that each of us has our own parenting methods and styles. After all, our children are each unique and have different wants and needs. Being the best mom to Baby L means doing things my and our way, not anyone else’s.

I especially liked the last portion of the quote: “just blooms.” It is easy to get caught up in the lives of others. Who is prettier, skinnier, wealthier? It could go on and on. In my opinion, this does more harm than good, though. In doing so, we lose sight of who we really are, what we truly enjoy and what we are capable of.

…And so, Just Bloom was born.

What’s blooming around here

Filed Under: blog, writing // August 24, 2016

Before last week, I couldn’t remember the last time I drafted a blog post on my laptop. That’s right… for as long as I can remember I’ve been typing away on this blog from my cellphone. Most times on the commute to work.

You see, it’s tough. It’s tough when your commute is 1.5 hours long, you’re pregnant AND tired during said commute… and then you have a newborn baby. Time is fleeting these days. Whatever free time I seem to have (AKA when the baby is asleep) is spent staring at him or cleaning up around our home.

The last couple of weeks I’ve actually had time to read through some of my old posts. While reading them, feelings of nostalgia came upon me. Not necessarily nostalgia for those times in my life–because I’m currently living my best life–but for the writer in me who produced those writings.
And so, here I am. I won’t have the same time I once did to dedicate to this space but I want to put forth the effort. I’ve decided to redesign and rename the blog before doing so because I want a colorful, energetic, joyful space to come to whenever I want to write. A place that will encourage me to do more of what I love.
I hope you enjoy the new look!
(Tomorrow, I’ll explain the inspiration behind it.)
