Why I Write

Filed Under: blogging, life, writing // January 15, 2019

Writing became an outlet for me during my then-boyfriend/now-husband’s career. I felt lonely and missed him and sometimes sulked that we were living two separate, very different lives. I was in law school and he was an ocean away working for the Navy.

So I wrote to simply express my feelings. My very first post was secretive, short and to the point (and not very well-written…). Since then, I’ve catalogued my life and our life together in much greater detail.

These days, I write for similar reasons (as an outlet, to express myself and to connect with readers and others) but I also write with a more pointed reason in mind: for my legacy. I want to give my kids (and their kids and so on) something from me that captures part of the essence of who I am, what I think, and what I do.

Sure, photos capture moments and memories. But words capture feelings in a way that photos can’t.

I want my boys to know how much I thought of them and loved them and have no doubt they’re my world. They’ll be able to tell that from the way I treat them, and from my smile and look in my eyes in photos of us together.

But they’ll also know because I am writing and telling them so.

And so I share my writing on this little corner of the internet…that will hopefully survive the test of time and not be lost, like, say, a journal could be.

Thank you for reading my writing.

Real Talk About My #Sponsored/ #Ad Work

Filed Under: blogging, instagram, real talk, sponsored work // October 23, 2018

When I first launched my Instagram account as a passion project, I am not sure I intended for it to be what it’s become (also a source of income)—partly because I didn’t know it could and partly because I didn’t think it could.

Here is where I say to you: take that chance you’ve always wanted to! You never know what good can come of it.

I know from the outside, it might seem like I’m just pushing products on Instagram and sometimes on here, so I want to take time to explain and be clear: my blog and my Instagram account were started and remain ways to connect women and moms, and frankly everyone seeking

to be empowered,

to relate,

to feel happy,

to be yourself.

I try to be authentic 100% of the time. And that means I choose which projects to work on and which products to advertise. I never sponsor something I don’t believe in or trust. And I still try to keep it personal and be myself along the way by offering non-sponsored writing and personal tidbits in my sponsored work.

I hope you understand and even enjoy visiting my feed.

If you do enjoy being on my feed, consider following along. If you follow me and/or like my photos, thanks for supporting me and sticking with me. It is very much appreciated!

Moments of Musing is ONE!

Filed Under: blogging, one year // March 1, 2018

One year ago, I re-launched this blog, and launched my blog Instagram account and Facebook page! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year!

I was nervous and scared of what people, especially those I knew and non-bloggers, might think. I’d been blogging on the downlow for quite some time, so opening up this space to the public was a big step. I went back and forth about whether to do so while I was on maternity leave.

I had time on my hands (while S napped and napped and napped some more) to jump back into writing, and I enjoyed it. I had so much that I wanted to say about my new role as a mom because it was the most life-changing experience I’d been through. (It still is.) I hoped others might enjoy my words, too, but more than that, I hoped I could help others feel less alone and more optimistic.

My son is the main reason I built the confidence to go public because becoming his mom empowered me beyond measure. My husband (#instagramhusband) and brother (#brotog) helped me with re-branding and when all was set, I decided to finally do it–to give into vulnerability and let others into my writing space and thoughts.

This past year has been a lot of fun. Everyone has been so kind and gracious. I have a small community I can go to for all things Instagram and blogging, which I’ve found to be key to my success.

It’s been a year of growth and change, much learning, and even more love. I am really looking forward to what the future holds.

Thank you ALL for your love and support and for being along for the journey! xoxo

Good for You, and Good for Me

Filed Under: blogging, community, comparison, competition // July 13, 2017

I think we’re socialized to think the world is all me vs. you… and it’s no different in blog or social media land. We compare and compete as if there isn’t space for everyone to succeed. News flash: there is.

Just as there will likely be someone doing better, there will also be someone doing worse. Learn from the top performer. Ask questions. Seek answers. Let her be your motivation. Mentor the lower performer. Give advice. Be a resource. Motivate her.

Because we can all succeed. And you can and should be happy about someone else’s success while still celebrating your own. I mean, how crappy would it be to constantly be down on yourself while achieving your own milestones? Doing so isn’t going to get you anywhere.

Jealousy won’t either.

So, celebrate everyone, including yourself. Success doesn’t happen overnight–not for anyone. And often there are behind the scene failures you don’t even know about. Find your niche and brand, and kick ass owning it.

Stop comparing. Start d o i n g.

Riding the Waves of Blogging

*This post is sponsored by PinkBlush but all opinions are my own.*

I hope you all had a great weekend! Ours was lowkey and relaxing, which was welcomed after a week jam-packed with parties, family visiting and a mini getaway. (Check out my Instagram for more.)

Instead of weekend recap, though, I’m going to be talking about something that’s been on my mind for a bit: blogging. I’ve been reading a lot of posts about how it has changed (i.e. this Vintage Blogging post that I recently shared) and I couldn’t agree more.

For me, it never really was what it has become. I used to primarily write about MY story. And now I mainly write A story in hopes others can relate. I think about it — why I do this whole writing-on-the-internet thing and how it’s changed — A LOT…

But at the end of the day my core reason has remained the same: because I enjoy writing. It makes me happy. It’s as simple as that, and that brings me comfort and provides a constant in the seemingly never ending waves of blogging and social media changes.

In an effort to get back to old-school blogging, I’ll be trying my best to add personal touches to posts. Think more of who I am, what I’m thinking, what I’ve been up to and even a bit of what I’m wearing, like the super cute and comfortable dress above. Whenever I think of stepping away from this space, I find so many reasons to stay.

And so, here I am. For good? I don’t know. But definitely for now.
