The Keeper of Christmas Magic

The Christmas countdown is officially on! With less than three weeks to go, I’ve been in what I liked to call “Mama Claus Mode.” My to-do list has included ordering the kids’ presents from my husband and I (and their grandparents), a Christmas baking activity, decorating the house and tree, and little surprises here and there for them.

It’s a beautiful, wonderful, fun thing keeping the magic of Christmas alive for them. But I have to admit it is also incredibly stressful.

I know this season isn’t about giving the most presents or doing the most activities. I know I don’t have to holiday photos, holiday cards, matching pjs, elaborate gift wrapping or decor. But I still want to do some of that, even though I have so much laundry to do … even though I have many work tasks and projects as I navigate working from home with kids … even though I am trying to stick to some sort of budget … and even though I am sick.

I still want to be the best Mama Claus I can be despite feeling stretched thin.

So I’ve tried to cut some corners. I decided not to put up all my Christmas decor so I wouldn’t have to take it all down. We still don’t do the Elf on the Shelf because it’s enough work playing Santa. We baked and decorated Christmas cupcakes instead of going to our town’s Christmas parade and tree lighting to avoid getting the kids more sick (they’re currently under the weather).

But as I remind myself what’s most important this holiday season – being happy, healthy and together – I realize I am still putting too much pressure on myself. I don’t know what the answer is to to not feeling overwhelmed during this time of year as I am still figuring it out… It seems like that’s the common theme of my motherhood journey- “still figuring out.” I think many moms can probably relate.

I hope you all have a minimally stressful, very joyful holiday season!

To all the Mama Clauses out there, I see you! You are appreciated!

Family Holiday Photos at Christmas Tree Farm

Filed Under: christmas, Christmas 2020, Christmas tree farm, motherhood // December 4, 2020

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmastime is my favorite, and although this Christmas season will be different due to COVID-19, I still want to make it a fun and festive season with the kids. We decided to head to Waterdrinker Family Farm with my parents, brother and his boyfriend to check out the Christmas trees, drink some hot cocoa, and roast some s’mores by the bonfire. I am hoping to add it to our Christmas traditions. It was such a fun family day out.  Finding the silver lining during this time has reminded me the real Christmas meaning is not about presents but about being present with loved ones in whatever ways possible.
Here are some of our family Christmas photos:

Christmas Weekend Recap

This post is sponsored by Pink Blush but all opinions are my own.

Just like that, Christmas Weekend came and went. Normally, I’d be pretty sad about it being over, but in the wise words of my dad “everyday with S  feels like Chridtmas.” Plus, there are 12 days of Christmas and my family celebrates the culminating holiday, Three Kings Day so there will be more celebrations to come.

The weekend was a magical one, though. Of course, we matched/ color coordinated our outfits and PJs all weekend long. On Christmas Eve, I wore a beautiful burgundy rosette lace tunic. It was form fitting and I got compliments on it. The boys wore burgundy in their outfits, as well.

S woke at 11:30PM in time for Santa’s visit and presents. He was so happy and I was so proud of him for not being grumpy. My husband and I then stayed awake into the wee hours (4:40AM) wrapping his presents.

On Christmas Day, S was in awe of the presents. While he somewhat unwrapped most, he was most fond of his new Mickey bed (that he’s already slept in through the night!) and his tool set work bench. It’s truly amazing seeing his eyes light up at the littlest things.

He brings such joy to our lives and to those all around him. And really, that’s the whole point of the holiday season–to spread love and joy. I hope your holiday was full of both!

It’s hard to believe my favorite holiday is this weekend! I still have all of our presents to wrap and some stocking stuffers to buy … but I am excited to experience the magic of Christmas with my little family in our new home. We have surprises in store for S and I am excited to see his reaction.
Merry Christmas, from us to you. I hope you spend the holiday weekend surrounded by loved ones and great food, making wonderful memories to last you for years to come.

The Feelings of Christmas Week

Filed Under: christmas, christmastime // December 18, 2017

It’s Christmas Week! How and when this happened is beyond me … it feels like just yesterday it was October and we started our house hunt and now he we are settled (for the most part) into our home for Christmastime.

Speaking of Christmastime, I am feeling lots of feelings this year:

Excited because it’s my favorite holiday
– I get to experience the magic of the holiday as a mom and I’m thinking this year will be even better than last since S can open presents, communicates and expresses his emotions so much more.

Sad because I want it to last longer (lol)
– Why is Christmastime only a few weeks long? But also, we were so busy up until a couple of weeks ago that I feel like we didn’t really get into the spirit until last week.

Nervous because how am I going to get everything I have to do done before then?!
– I have so many presents to wrap, presents to still buy, a house to clean and prepare for a weekend of hosting and somehow, sometime also want to relax just a little bit and soak it all in. So much to do, so little time–that saying applies to my life quite often.

But mostly I am excited and ready to kick off this week on a good note – stay tuned for a fun giveaway that I’m launching on my Instagram tonight and will post about on here tomorrow!
