Our Move Down South – From Long Island to Virginia Beach

Filed Under: life change, life update, moving // February 6, 2025

A little over six months ago, we made a big change: We moved our family down South to Virginia Beach from Long Island, New York. We thought long and hard, weighing pros and cons, and ultimately asked ourselves, if not now, when?

For as long as I can remember, we dreamt of moving a little down South to a warmer climate and lower cost of living. Growing up, I’d always hear that New York City is where the money and opportunity are. The older I got the more I wondered — but at what cost?

The New York City area’s high cost of living, overpopulation, long commutes, and gridlock traffic did not feel like the life we wanted for our family. So we finally came full-circle to where Tim was stationed when we met: Virginia Beach. It is a place that felt familiar enough, with booming development but not overdeveloped, a strong military veteran community, and where friends from the military still lived.

Our move came with a lot of different emotions – and reactions. Some people were not surprised at all. Others were surprised about where we’d chosen because Florida had been on my mind for so long. (If you remember this post revisiting my five-year plan, it was about moving to Florida, which we ultimately decided wasn’t the best location for our family.)

A few people said they were surprised altogether, not foreseeing a move that far away – despite us discussing moving for years (here we are in Virginia Beach in 2021, a trip during which Tim looked at houses). I think it was their way of coping with their sadness. As a mom of four kids, however, I realized my responsibility is to manage my own emotions and help my children through their feelings about such a big move.

Looking back, I am still shocked – and very proud – we were able to purge, pack up a house on our own, and move with our four small kids. We pulled off what felt impossible at times. If nothing else, the experience showed me what we are capable of. It gave me the confidence to know we would be okay on our own away from my family, which was initially a very emotional and scary prospect and the biggest reason we stayed in New York so long.

Six months into our move, I am more than content with our decision. It’s given us what we were looking for and more. And guess what? Despite being 365 miles away from New York City, there’s money and opportunity here, too.

Oh, and my cousin, who’s more like my sister, made the move with us! She lives on her own and loves it down here, too. Having family with us has helped with the transition.

We look forward to all the memories we’ll make together here.

Revisiting a BIG Life Goal – What Will We Decide?

Filed Under: goals, life, life update, Uncategorized // August 18, 2022

Are you, today, where you pictured yourself being five years ago? It is something I have personally been thinking about lately as I am revisiting a big life goal.

Back in 2017, my husband, oldest son (then our only child) and I returned from a family vacation. It was then that I placed a dream goal of mine onto my unofficial “five-year plan.” My husband was open to the idea. (Thankfully, we’ve always been on the same page when it comes to big events.) However, he put it on a “ten-year plan.” Either way, it was being placed our life plan.

With the summer days longer and warmer, I was reminded this summer why that goal made it into our plans.

Well, here we are five years later in 2022, and maybe my husband was right about it being closer to 10 vs. 5 years. Lately, though, I have been revisiting that big life goal… And I think I still want to go through with it, at least in some form. There are a lot of variables that would have to be figured out beforehands. Thankfully, we have some time, which is comforting (but also makes me a bit antsy).

Due to the big change it would bring, I do not want to rush. It is one of the biggest –if not the biggest since we have kids now– decisions we’ve made together.

Now, with three kids, two of whom are in school, this decision feels heavier. Our responsibility has grown immensely since becoming parents to three awesome little dudes.

We now feel an urge to not only build to a great life for ourselves, but also for our kids.

Ultimately, I know whatever decision we make together will be the best one for our family.

So, what will we decide? I do not the answers right now. We are unsure of quite a bit. What I do know is that we are thinking about it, and that time will tell…

What I’ve been up to recently {via instagram}

Filed Under: instagram, life, life lately, life update // March 6, 2019

I have admittedly been a bit absent from here. February threw me through a loop with all of us being sick at one point or another. Before my sinus infection, I hadn’t had a fever in as long as I can remember so having two within as many days definitely forced me to take a step back.

And then, I don’t know, my emotions spiraled and I kind of did not gather my bearings until recently. I explain why towards the end of this post.

Here is what I’ve been up to recently via instagram. (If you don’t follow me, you should because I update that the most frequently of all my channels and platforms.)

1. Moments of Musing turned 2!

March is Spring’s month, and therefore, symbolizes a month of new beginnings. Fresh starts. Change. March is also Women’s History Month. It is therefore fitting that two years ago this month I re-launched my blog, which celebrates all things woman, mom, wife, and more.

2. I have a few cool projects coming up and I’ve been working harder than ever to make my dreams a reality.

“Women, we are nurturers, that’s what’s expected of us. We have our children. We have our husbands if we are lucky enough, and our partners, whoever. But we have to find personal fulfillment. We have to follow our dreams. We have to say, ‘I can do that and I should be allowed to do that.'” – Glen Close

This year, I’m filling my heart with love AND I’m following my dreams. I am excited, I am nervous and I am READY!

3. Motherhood has been wonderful … funny, embarrasing, frustrating, stressful but always beautiful and full of SO MUCH LOVE (and blowouts).

My toddler threw open my public restroom stall door at breakfast over the weekend leaving me a bit embarrassed (and cracking up) and a fellow mom (total stranger) having to catch said door so it didn’t slam into her + her child. #thisismotherhood

4. WE’RE GOING ON A TROPICAL VACATION SOON!

Since the summer isn’t coming to us anytime soon we decided we’ll go to it! We recently booked our upcoming island vacation and I’m SO excited! Move over weaning + winter blues …this mama is trading you in for a different kind of blues…

5. I am happy with my postpartum body progress… it’s almost hard to believe I weigh the least I have since around my wedding! (I’m sharing a more in-depth postpartum body update in my instagram stories today.)

Mirror, mirror, know what I see? A magical body ✨ It’s carried and birthed two babies, via two C-sections, & has fed them both. I’m just so grateful for the magic of it all. 💕Getting ready for our upcoming island vacation, which means stocking up on swim suits! Funny how I used to be more self-conscious pre-baby. Counting down the days!
