I Received a Compliment on my Bump…2 Months Postpartum

Filed Under: motherhood, postpartum body // August 23, 2018

I received a comment on the below Instagram photo I recently shared complimenting my cute belly/bump. To be honest, I deleted the comment (primarily because I did not want others who were quickly passing by my feed to think I’m expecting). BUT I didn’t feel too badly about the comment.

You see, the photo was taken less than two months postpartum and I understand and appreciate my body much more now. So thanks but no thanks to the person but also, it’s okay you thought I had a belly. I’m okay with having a little belly right now.

I’m proud of my body. It will always have some reminders of child birth (#1 being my c-section scar) and that’s beautiful.

One day, my kids will become independent. I’ll hold them less and less and then eventually, they won’t even live with me.

My body will always serve as a sweet reminder that some time ago I held them very close and grew them to the best of my ability in my belly for 9 months so they could be born into this world.

For those reasons and more, love ya, bod!

*Also, please let this serve as a gentle reminder not to comment on others’ bodies unless you are being kind, certain they are expecting, or they’ve invited compliments/critique.*

Love Your {Postpartum} Body – Pt. 2

Filed Under: motherhood, postpartum body // June 11, 2018

Read Part 1 here.

Each pregnancy, I gained 40+ pounds. This time it was a bit more shocking because I only gained one pound (just one!) the first trimester due to feeling sick. However, once I felt well my appetite caught up with me.

If you know me, you know I am a relatively healthy eater + try to get workouts in however I can so gaining that much during my first pregnancy was mentally trying. I knew this second time that my body could and would “bounce” back if I treated it well.

Ultimately, though, I promised to give myself grace with pregnancy #2 and I truly believe it’s allowed me to be less stressed about my body, which in turn has helped me feel emotionally better postpartum, nurse successfully thus far and be healthier (I eat and hydrate MUCH MORE this time postpartum than I did last time!)

Now, I am still human. So, even though I’m down 32 pounds, I was slightly disappointed it wasn’t more when I stepped on the scale at my appointment last week. There I was disappointed right after I had drafted this body positivity post! The irony was not lost on me. However, I quickly readjusted my attitude and was happy and grateful again that more important than any weight lost, I have healthy kids and I am recovering and feeling well.

All of this is to say to be kind to yourself and your body. Treat it well. Nourish it — with the right foods (and treats!), love and self-care. Have grace. Give grace.

Swimsuit

I don’t know about you but I’ve been dreaming about vacation. Since I am creeping on 31 weeks pregnant, though, I am not getting on a plane any time soon. It sort of makes me sad. Last year, it felt like we were on the go a lot towards the end (Disney World, California and Michigan) so it has been nice to stay put for a little while… however, now that it has been a little while I want to be on a plane and headed to a beautiful beach.

I am hoping we can road trip somewhere before our next big vacation in September but if not, there is always summer. We live in a town with private beaches and pools so I plan to take advantage of that. While dreaming of said summer, I have come across one piece swimsuits that I think would flatter my — and others’ — postpartum bodies.

I got a lot of questions about the above suit I wore last year in Puerto Rico so I figured I’d share my picks for this year’s swim suit season:

ONE
TWO
THREE
FOUR
FIVE

What do you think? I’ll be sharing some two-pieces (high waist bottoms) soon!
