Moments of Musing

It’s not always rainbows & butterflies

“It’s compromise that moves us along”
– Maroon 5, She Will Be Loved

While my and Tim’s relationship might seem to be picture-perfect, it’s most definitely not. Because neither of us are perfect. We’re human. We have disagreements & arguments. We have “tiffs” – what I refer to as “annoyances.”
But it works for us.

I think disagreements keep our relationship healthy, honestly. I don’t know if every relationship has them – maybe there are those that don’t, not that it matters to us really- but I couldn’t imagine our relationship being based on 100% similarities. Actually, a huge part of why I love Tim is because he is different than me in some aspects.

Now, I’m not saying we have these all the time because they’re pretty rare. Also, though distance plays a part in some, I think there will always be little issues we’ll have to confront as we grow old together. The important thing is that nothing we disagree over is not fixable or so important that it drives up apart and that our love remain bigger than all of it. Looking back so far, I’m proud of all we’ve overcome together.

“Good relationships balance over time. This means that at any particular point in time, the relationship may appear quite unbalanced: One partner may be more nurturing; one may be more needy; one may be providing all the financial support, etc. But if both partners are loving, understanding, giving, dedicated and flexible, then the relationship can handle all kinds of ups and downs, and still be strong, exciting and, yes, romantic. The best relationships are well balanced. Not a delicate balance; not a static balance- but a dynamic ever-changing balance.” — Gregory Godek

I have always thought that disagreements and full blown fights are what keep relationships honest and strong.
